2015-2016 Concert Season

Shout for Joy!

The Houston Choral Society will begin its 28th concert season with an exploration of the American Spiritual, performing with the Prairie View A&M Chamber Choir.

We will welcome composer Adolphus Hailstork to a performance of his Shout for Joy!

Please join us at 7:00 PM for an informative pre-concert lecture about the American Spiritual by Dr. Jan Taylor.

 

Celebrate the Season!

Our Saturday evening Christmas concert this season will feature J. S. Bach’s Magnificat BWV243, with orchestra, and featuring soloists from The Houston Choral Society. This performance will be dedicated to a great lover of Bach’s work, our friend, Rich Edyvean who passed on last fall.

We will also offer our favorite audience participation classic, The 12 Days of Christmas; many carols, and other favorite holiday pieces, including O Holy Night and The Present.

 

Believe!

Venue: Foundry United Methodist Church at 8350 Jones Road at Highway 290, Houston, Texas

Our Sunday matinee concert will be a family-oriented celebration of the season, featuring Believe from The Polar Express. We will also offer our favorite audience participation classic, The 12 Days of Christmas; many carols, and other favorite holiday pieces, including O Holy Night and The Present.

 

A Celtic Celebration

Date/Time: Saturday, March 12, 2016, 7:30 PM.
Venue: Foundry United Methodist Church at 8350 Jones Road at Highway 290, Houston, Texas

We have scheduled an early concert next year so that we can offer Letters from Ireland to our audience just before St. Patrick’s Day.

This is a Choral Suite arranged by Mark Brymer which includes many of our favorite Irish songs interspersed with a moving set of narrated letters from Irish family and friends to folks in America.

We will also offer Love Changes Everything by Andrew Lloyd Weber, and other Celtic music.

We hope to have some Celtic Dancers to enhance our lovely evening.

 

Requiem

Date/Time: Saturday, May 7, 2016, 7:30 PM.
Venue: Foundry United Methodist Church at 8350 Jones Road at Highway 290, Houston, Texas

We will perform the incomparable Requiem by W. A. Mozart (Franz Beyer’s instrumentation) with orchestra. The concert will end with the moving hymn, You Raise Me Up.

We will be joined by marvelous soloists: Soprano, Melissa Givens; Contralto, Sonja Bruzauskas; Tenor, Daniel Mutlu; Bass, Leon Turner.
